Effective treatment for depression

Theres are just some of the signs that you might be experiencing depression. Depression can be extremely debilitating, Some people can suffer for years with depression and not even realise it, others suffer but don't know how to help themselves. Most people experience low moods, irritability and feel miserable from time to time and these moods often pass quite quickly, within hours and days. However, if these moods are more frequent and long lasting they could be a sign you are experiencing depression.
Types of depression
Major Depression... Symptoms that last for at least two weeks. A major depressive episode may be experienced only once or several episodes can occur throughout ones life, interfering with work, relationships, sleep, appetite and pleasure of life.
Situational depression... Brought on by stressful life events, death of loved ones, divorce or job loss.
Persistent depression (Dysthymia)... The symptoms come and go for over two year or more, often on a sliding scale of intensity.
Seasonal Affective disorder (SAD)... Symptoms are brought on by the winter months when there is less sunlight.
Prenatal Depression... Symptoms of Major depression occur weeks or months after childbirth.
Depression is a very common issue and can effect anyone. In fact, The Department of Health reported that in the UK alone it is expected that half of all women and a quarter of all men will suffer depression at some point in their lives. The World Health Organisation was recently quoted saying “depression will be second to heart disease as the leading cause of illness by 2020.
Depression can come on suddenly or slowly develop over weeks or months, and unfortunately, many people keep how they are feeling hidden from friends, family and work colleaguesin the fear of being not understood, judged or rejected, leaving them feeling lonely and isolated.
Are you avoiding treatment
You may be avoiding seeking help because you've tried it in the past and it didn’t help or you feel so low and despondent, you just think “whats the point.” Maybe you don’t feel comfortable talking about how you feel to anyone and don’t really believe talking will help anyway or perhaps you think you may have to delve into the past, which you really do not want to do. There are many reason people don’t seek help for the relief of depression Its perfectly understandable.
